Scheme will ensure safe and secure drinking water for community

Irish Water is working in partnership with Waterford City & County Council to deliver a new Water Supply Scheme for the Ring Helvick area of Co. Waterford. This will ensure a safe and secure drinking water supply for local residents while also facilitating the removal of the scheme from the EPA’s Remedial Action List (RAL).

The Ring Helvick area is currently served by four water supply schemes. This presents various deficiencies including insufficient water storage capacities, risk of contamination and inadequate water treatment. Elevated levels of Trihalomethanes (THMs) have also been recorded in the treated drinking water supplied into the Ring Helvick Scheme.

Integrating these existing schemes into a single scheme supplied from a safe and reliable source – the existing Ballynamuck wellfield in Dungarvan – will ensure that local residents have access to safe and reliable drinking water that is compliant with all drinking water regulations.

Irish Water will be submitting a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for the acquisition of lands and wayleaves needed for the construction of a new pipeline from Dungarvan, two new storage reservoirs and associated works.

Commenting on the project, Irish Water’s Regional Infrastructure Lead, Lisa Cogan said “We are pleased to be progressing this essential project to ensure a safe and reliable supply of drinking water to the people of the Ring Helvick area. This scheme has been designed to ensure that the infrastructure has sufficient capacity to meet long-term demands and that there is sufficient storage within the water supply network. Providing a new water supply will also facilitate the removal of almost 900 customers from the Remedial Action List and ensure a sustainable supply of quality drinking water now and into the future.”

Landowners and occupiers included in the CPO will receive individual written notices and there will be a period of public display and consideration. The procurement process for the selection of a contractor will then proceed in parallel with the CPO process.

Uisce Éireann ag treabhadh ar aghaidh le Scéim Soláthar Uisce na Rinne/Heilbhic chun soláthar uisce atá slán, sábháilte a chinntiú d’áitritheoirí áitiúla

Tá Uisce Éireann ag obair i gcomhpháirtíocht le Comhairle Cathrach & Contae Phort Láirge chun Scéim Soláthar Uisce nua a chur ar fáil i gcomhair cheantair na Rinne/Heilbhic i gContae Phort Láirge. Cinnteoidh sé seo soláthar uisce óil atá sábháilte agus iontaofa d’áitritheoirí áitiúla agus cinnteoidh sé chomh maith go mbeifí ábalta an scéim a bhaint de Liosta Gníomhaíochta Feabhais an Ghníomhaireacht um Chaomhnú Comhshaoil (GCC).

Tá ceithre scéim soláthar uisce ag cur uisce ar fáil i gceantar na Rinne/Heilbhic. Tá easnaimh éagsúla ag baint leis seo, toilleadh stórais uisce atá easnamhach san áireamh, chomh maith le baol éillithe agus cóiréail uisce easnamhach. Tá leibhéil ardaithe tríhalaimeatáin (THMs) taifeadta san uisce óil cóireáilte a cuirtear ar fáil do Scéim na Rinne/Heilbhic chomh maith.

Tríd na scéimeanna éagsúla seo a chomhcheangal isteach in aon scéim amháin, le soláthar uisce ag teacht ó fhoinse sábháilte, gur féidir braith uirthi – sé sin tobar Bhaile na Muc i nDún Garbhán – is féidir a chinntiú go mbeidh teacht ag áitritheoirí áitiúla ar uisce óil atá slán, sábháilte agus a chomhlíonann na rialacháin ar fad a bhaineann le huisce óil.

Beidh Uisce Éireann ag cur Ordú Ceannaigh Éigeantaigh ar aghaidh chun na tailte agus na ceadanna slí atá ag teastáil chun píblíne nua a thógaint ó Dhún Garbhán, maraon le dhá thaiscumar stórála nua agus oibreacha gaolmhara, a thógáil go héigeantach.

Ag labhairt di faoin tionscadal, deir Lisa Cogan, Ceannasaí Infreastruchtúr Réigiúnach de chuid Uisce Éireann: “Tá áthas orainn a bheith in ann an tionscadal riachtanach seo a chur chun cinn, chun a chinntiú go mbeidh soláthar uisce óil atá sábháilte agus iontaofa ar fáil do mhuintir na Rinne/Heilbhic. Tá an scéim seo deartha chun a chinntiú go mbeidh toilleadh go leor ag an infreastruchtúr chun freastal ar éilimh sa bhfad-téarma agus go mbeidh stóras go leor laistigh den líonra soláthar uisce. Nuair a bheidh soláthar nua uisce ar fáil, beimid ábalta beagnach 900 custaiméirí a bhaint den Liosta Gníomhaíochta Feabhais agus soláthar inbhuanaithe d’uisce óil d’ardchaighdeán a chinntiú anois agus sa todhchaí.”

Cuirfear fógraí ar leith i scríbhinn amach chuig úinéirí talún agus sealbhóirí lena mbaineann an Ordú Ceannaigh Éigeantaigh agus beidh tréimhse taispeántais phoiblí agus machnaimh i gceist ina dhiaidh san. Leanfaidh an próiseas soláthair chun conraitheoir a roghnú ar aghaidh ansan, comhthreomhar leis an bpróiseas Ordú Ceannaigh Éigeantaigh.
