Restrictions on the Louisburgh water supply tonight due to excessive demand
Customers urged to conserve water across Co. Mayo
Irish Water working in partnership with Mayo County Council would like to advise customers supplied from the Louisburgh public water supply that there will be restrictions placed on the supply tonight from 11pm until 7am tomorrow morning. These restrictions are necessary due to unprecedented demand.
Customers on this supply and across the county are being asked to conserve water to avoid reservoirs emptying and water pressure to homes and businesses being affected.
Across Mayo there are issues with high demand. Irish Water is appealing to customers to turn off taps and check for leaks on their own properties and in holiday homes and unoccupied premises and to report them to Irish Water’s customer care helpline on 1850 278 278. Irish Water is appealing to any customers with external taps to ensure that these are securely turned off as we try to protect the levels of our reservoirs and secure drinking water for local communities. A continuous flow from an external tap over a 24 hour period could use the equivalent of the daily water usage of 40 households.
The Lough Mask supply is at capacity with high demand also being registered on the Achill, Mulranny, Erris, and Ballina water supply schemes due to, more than likely, taps being left running in peoples’ homes and on farms.
Irish Water is urging customers to conserve water by turning off taps in properties and farm buildings, not running dishwashers or washing machines where possible and taking showers instead of baths.
Irish Water and Mayo County Council would like to thank customers in advance for their co-operation in conserving water at this critical time. Irish Water would also like to pay special tribute to local authority staff for their efforts in keeping water supplies running in very difficult conditions.
Updates will be posted to the Supply and Service section and via the 24/7 customer care line at 1850 278 278.
