Irish Water is working with Dublin City Council and Wicklow County Council to carry out repairs to a watermain between Vartry water treatment plant and Newtown Mount Kennedy. Crews are working to repair a leak on the watermain as quickly and as safely as possible and in line with Covid-19 protocols.

Irish Water in collaboration with Dublin City Council and Wicklow County Council have reconfigured the network to ensure continuity of supply to almost all properties, however some may experience lower than normal water pressure. Crews will be working over the weekend to prepare the site for the safe repair of the watermain. Due to the location of the leak and the complexity of the repairs the works are now extended and expected to be completed tomorrow Tuesday 19 January 2021. Once the repairs are successfully completed, normal water supply will be restored to any impacted properties. Properties in the following areas may be impacted by disruption to their supply, mainly lower pressure, while these repairs are underway; Newtown Mount Kennedy; Killcroney; Bray and Greystones. Some high lying areas particularly between Varty and Newtown Mount Kennedy may continue to be impacted until Tuesday night.

John O Donoghue, Regional Operations Manager, Irish Water, said: “Irish Water working with the Local Authorities right across the Greater Dublin area is addressing a number of leaks following the recent cold spell ad subsequent thaw. This particular leak is significant and we are reminding the public to conserve water where possible and to only use what they need whilst continuing to adhere to public health advice on hand washing and hygiene regarding COVID-19 while these repairs are underway. Simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact, such as taking showers over baths and fixing dripping taps where it is possible to do so. There are lots more tips on how to conserve water in your home, business or school on the Water Conservation section of our website.

Irish Water continues to work at this time, with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services. Irish Water would like to remind people to follow the HSE COVID-19 advice and ensure frequent handwashing.

Irish Water understands the inconvenience when a leak of this nature occurs and thanks customers for their patience while we work to repair the burst and restore normal supply to impacted customers. Irish Water regrets any inconvenience caused.
