Repairs to water main in Falcarragh - Gortahork to be complete this afternoon
Water supply is expected to be restored early this afternoon
Irish Water regrets that due to a burst on the rising main from the treatment plant at Ardsbeg to the treated water storage reservoir, customers in the Falcarragh - Gortahork area are without water this morning. The burst is currently being repaired and water supply is expected to be restored early this afternoon.
We have identified mains with repeated burst history
We are continuously reviewing water network performance including burst frequency and duration and designing actions to manage the worst performing water mains for replacement. In collaboration with Donegal County Council, we have identified critical mains with repeated burst history in the Falcarragh, Gortahork area. The existing pipework is asbestos concrete which was a common pipe material in the 1980’s. These tend to burst quite frequently as they reach the end of their lifecycle.
Part of our Leakage Reduction Programme
We are assessing the next phase of mains replacement works under our National Leakage Reduction Programme. We will continue to manage the network in an effort to prevent bursts and respond to outages should they occur. All repairs are carried out as quickly as possible working in partnership with crews in the Local Authority.
Customers should be advised to consult our Supply and Services page of our website and social media platforms for status on outages and expected restoration times and contact our call centre if they experiences outages or report any visible leaks - 1850 278 278.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the disruption to homes and businesses and to thank them for again their cooperation and understanding.
