Repairs progressing on a large burst to water main impacting customers near Kells
19 September 2023
Alternative water supplies being arranged
Uisce Éireann continues to progress works on a large burst to a rising water main at Lough Bane Water Treatment Plant impacting customers in Crossakiel, Moylagh, Drumone, Newcastle and surrounding areas in Co Meath. Repairs are expected to be completed this afternoon.
Once complete, it may take a up to three hours for full supply to restore to all customers, especially for those at the end of the network or on high ground.
To support impacted customers, Uisce Éireann is arranging the delivery of alternative water supplies with clean drinking water to the following locations: Crossakiel, Moylagh, and Kilskeer GAA grounds which will be available later this morning.
Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure as per Health Service Executive (HSE) advice.
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
Uisce Éireann continues to appeal to customers to conserve water to help the network refill and restore normal supply to all customers. While handwashing remains a priority, simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to 6 litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use.
