Pupils learned how everyone can play their part in protecting the ocean

The pupils learned about the important role engineers and scientists play in safeguarding our precious water resources for the future. In a series of interactive workshops and a tour of Dingle Oceanworld, they also learned how everyone can play their part in protecting the ocean environment and marine life by not flushing inappropriate items such as wet wipes or cotton wool buds down the toilet.

Engineers week encourages students to explore the world of engineering

Engineers Week, which runs from today (March 2) to March 8, is a week-long festival of events which aims to encourage students, their teachers and parents to explore the world of engineering and possibly consider a career in one of the varied engineering disciplines. The event in Dingle Oceanworld is one of a number of events being organised by Irish Water around the country during the week to support this important initiative.

Colm Ward, Media Specialist - Southern Region

“Irish Water is delighted to be promoting Engineers Week again this year, with staff visiting schools, hosting site tours and speaking about their careers in the water industry. This is a great opportunity to meet young people in our local communities and tell them about the work Irish Water is doing to fix our really old water networks and improve water and wastewater treatment to protect the health of generations to come."

“Engineering offers incredible opportunities for today’s school leavers and having a strong base of trained engineers is essential for the development of Ireland as a society and economy into the future. We want to show people that the world of engineering is open to everyone - girls, boys, creative thinkers, curious minds, problem-solvers and leaders."

“We were particularly delighted to have the opportunity to meet so many eager young people from West Kerry in Dingle Oceanworld and it was heartening to see how engaged they are with protecting our most precious natural resource: our water.”

Máire O Shea from Dingle Oceanworld commented

“It was fantastic to see such a great turn out from the local schools in West Kerry and it is a testament to their teachers and parents who encourage them to get involved in these great initiatives and opportunities.”

Daltaí scoile na Gaeltachta ag blaise do shaol na h-innealtóireachta le Uisce Éireann agus Mara Beo an Daingean

D’éirigh le breis agus 100 dalta scoile ó Iarthar Chiarraí léargas a fháil ar shaol na h-innealtóireachta agus gach a bhaineann leis sin nuair a bhuaileadar le baill foirne do chuid Uisce Éireann i Mara Beo an Daingean inniu agus an ócáid mar chuid do Sheachtain na n-Innealtóirí 2019.

D'fhoghlaim daltaí conas is féidir le gach duine a gcuid páirt a ghlacadh i gcosaint na farraige

D’fhoghlaim na daltaí maidir leis an ról tábhachtach atá ag innealtóirí agus eolaithe i gcosaint uisce óil sa lá atá inniu ann agus don todhchaí. Cuireadh sraith ceardlanna idirghníomhach ar siúl, chomh maith le turas do Mara Beo mar chuid den ócáid. Cuireadh in iúl do na daltaí an ról atá le plé ag an gnáth shaoránach sa tír chun an fharraige mhór agus an beatha mara a chosaint agus an chúis nár chomhair a bheith ag cuir earraí michuí ar nós baitíní cadáis nó clúidíní síos an leithreas.

Spreagann seachtain na nInnealtóirí mic léinn chun saol na hinnealtóireachta a iniúchadh

Beidh Seachtain na nInnealtóirí ar siúl ón 2ú-8ú Márta, féile seachtaine lán le himeachtaí atá dírithe ar dhaltaí scoile chun a suim a spreagadh i gcúrsaí innealtóireachta atá i gceist. I rith na hócáide dátheangach, labhair baill foirne do chuid Uisce Éireann agus Mara Beo faoina gcuid slite beatha mar Innealtóirí agus Eolaithe, rinneadar turgnaimh a láithriú agus d’fhreagair siad ceisteanna a bhí an na daltaí. Taispeáineadh físeán do na daltaí freisin faoin bpróiseas chasta cóireála uisce agus gach a bhaineann le uisce a dhéanamh sábháilte le n-ól.

Colm Ward, Speisialtóir Meáin - Réigiún an Deiscirt

“Tá Uisce Éireann ríméadach a bheith ag tacú le Seachtain na nInnealtóirí arís i mbliana, le baill foirne ag tabhairt cuairt ar scoileanna, ag cuir fáilte roimh dhaltaí chuig suíomhanna agus ag labhairt mar gheall ar na rólanna agus slite beatha atá acu san earnáil uisce. Is iontach an deis atá anseo bualadh leis na hógánaigh inár gceantair féin agus inseacht dóibh faoin obair a bhíonn ar siúl ag Uisce Éireann thart timpeall na tíre chun na sean phíopaí ársa a dheisiú agus cinn nua a chuir ina náit, chomh maith leis na hionaid cóireála uisce agus fuíolluisce a thógáil nó a uasghrádú ionas go mbeidh na glúnta atá le theachta in ann leas a bhaint astu”

“Is iontach an slí beatha atá san Innealtóireacht agus tá go leor deiseanna ar fáil sa lá atá inniu ann. Tá Innealtóirí ag teastáil sa tír chun forbairt eacnamaíochta agus sóisialta a chur chun cinn. Teastaíonn uainn a thaispeáint go bhfuil an slí beatha seo ar fáil do chách, cailíní, buachaillí, iad siúd atá cruthaitheach, fiosrach, ceannairí nó iad siúd gur maith leo fadhbanna a réiteach.”

“Tá muid thar a bheith ríméadach a bheith in ann bualadh leis an méid seo ógánaigh in Iarthar Chiarraí sa Daingean in ionad Mara Beo agus d’ardódh sé do chroí a fheiceáil cé chomh dírithe agus a bhí siad ar an ábhar a bhí á phlé againn agus an tuiscint a bhí acu ar thábhacht an acmhainn is tábhachtaí atá againn: ár nuisce.”

Dúirt Máire O Shea ó Oceanworld an Daingin

“Bhí sé go diail an méid sin mic léinn ós na scoileanna áitiúla a fheiscint inniu agus caithfear molladh a thabhairt dos na múinteoirí agus a gcuid tuismitheoirí a thugann an misneach dóibh páirt a ghlacadh san gcineál seo imeachta. Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí.”
