The public are invited to attend to meet the project team and learn more about this important project

Irish Water is holding an information evening at St Columba’s Community Centre, Lackenagh, Burtonport, on Monday, September 10 from 5.30 - 7.30pm to present plans for the Burtonport Sewerage Scheme.

We are working to end the unacceptable practice of discharging untreated wastewater into Rutland Sound by developing a new wastewater treatment plant as part of the Burtonport Sewerage Scheme.

The public are invited to attend the information evening to meet the project team and learn more about Irish Water’s plans to progress this important project.

What are the benefits?

The practice of discharging untreated wastewater to Rutland Sound is unsustainable. The new wastewater treatment plant will bring benefits to Burtonport in terms of health, integrity of the environment and improved water quality for all. Cleaner water will enhance Burtonport’s amenity value and act as a platform for social and economic development.

What will the project involve?

The new pipes, pumping station and wastewater treatment plant have all been sized to accommodate an increase in the local population and will facilitate future growth in the area. The project will also ensure that the water quality standards set down by regulatory bodies will be achieved.

If you are interested in receiving more information or in asking questions about this project, you are invited to attend the information evening.
