Information Evening on Sandymount Water Mains Replacement Project
Replacement of ageing cast iron water mains prone to bursts
Irish Water will host a public information drop-in evening on Wednesday, 18 October from 3-7pm in the Clanna Gael Fontenoy GAA Club, Sean Moore Park, Sean Moore Road, Dublin on the Sandymount water main replacement project. Irish Water is investing in the water network in Sandymount to improve the security of the water supply for customers.
This project is expected to commence in the coming weeks and will involve the replacement of ageing cast iron water mains that are prone to leakage and regular bursts which can cause interruptions to customer’s water supply.
The Sandymount water mains replacement project is part of Irish Water’s national Leakage Reduction Programme which over the next four years will reduce the high level of leakage across the country by fixing or replacing ageing water mains. This will ensure a safe, reliable water supply which is vital for our health, our environment and our growing population and economy.
The project will be carried out on a phased bases and is estimated to take approximately 12 – 14 weeks to complete. The first phase of the project will involve the replacement of ageing water mains and shared backyard service connections along Gilford Drive, Gilford Park, Gilford Road, Gilford Avenue, Lea Road and Lea Crescent, Sandymount Castle Road, Sandymount Castle Drive and Sandymount Castle Park. The second phase of the project will commence in January 2018 and will involve the replacement of water mains and shared backyard services along Sandymount Road, Seafort Avenue and Wilford Park.
The works will deliver significant improvements in network performance and customer service in terms of improved water pressure and improved security and quality of the water supply to customers.
Irish Water invites members of the public to come to the drop-in public information event on Wednesday, 18 October from 3-7pm in the Clanna Gael Fontenoy GAA Club. Letters have also been distributed to properties in Sandymount to advise residents and business owners about the drop-in public information event.
