Planned water restrictions for parts of Athlone and surrounding areas
Treated water levels in the Annagh Reservoir have fallen
Irish Water wishes to advise customers in Athlone and the surrounding areas that due to the increase in the demand for water as a result of the current dry weather water levels have dropped in the Annagh Reservoir in Athlone. In order to allow water levels to recover ahead of the weekend there is a planned water outage from 10pm on Wednesday, 11 July until 6am Thursday, 12 July 2018.
This night-time restriction will impact customers in Athlone Town, Baylin, Mount Temple, The Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley, Athlone and surrounds in Co. Westmeath.
Water supply will restore to customers as the network refills
The water supply will restore to customers as the network refills. It can take a number of hours for the water to restore to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network once the water supply is turned back on. We expect that supply will return to customers between 6 am and 8am as the water returns to the network.
We are asking customers to conserve water for the foreseeable future due to increased demand and reducing water levels in the Annagh Reservoir. The current drought conditions being experienced across the country and increased seasonal demand are contributing to the reduced available supply of treated drinking water. Irish Water has imposed a National Water Conservation Order commonly referred to as a hosepipe ban which is in place for the entire country since Friday, 6 July until midnight on Tuesday, 31 July 2018 for all domestic public water supplies and commercial premises for non-commercial activities e.g. watering gardens attached to a business premises.
Every small effort to save water helps
Every small effort to save water will contribute to maintaining supplies and benefit your entire community by reducing the likelihood of water restrictions.
To help conserve water customers are being asked to report any leaks they see on the public network and to repair any private side leaks in their homes and businesses to help restore water levels in the network. Customers can report any public side leaks online via our Report a Leak form or by calling the customer care helpline 24/7 on 1850 278 278.
