Overnight restriction necessary for customers served by Inch Public Water Supply

14 December 2022

Over-night restriction is required to help water levels in the Barleymount reservoir recover due to increased demand and to maintain supply for homes and businesses during the day

Uisce Éireann and Kerry County Council advise customers served by Inch Public Water Supply that an over-night restriction is required to help water levels in the Barleymount reservoir recover due to increased demand and to maintain supply for homes and businesses during the day.

To maintain a sufficient supply to homes and businesses during normal working hours, water supply will be restricted from 10pm tonight, Saturday 10 December, until tomorrow morning. During this time, the following areas including Inch, Aghadoe and Milltown supplied by Barleymount reservoir may experience reduced water pressure and/or no water. It can take two to three hours following a restriction for the network to refill and normal supply to be fully restored to all areas.

Speaking about the restriction, Oliver Harney, Uisce Éireann said: “Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience this overnight restriction may cause, however, it is essential to ensure a sufficient water supply is available for residents and businesses during the day for hygiene and other essential purposes.

We are appealing to customers to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information on water conservation is available on our Conservation section.”

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries. For updates on local water supply issues, please visit the Water Supply Updates section.

With temperatures forecast to dip below zero over the coming days, we are appealing to homes, businesses and those responsible for unoccupied buildings to check for leaks and to turn off water where it’s not needed. We are also appealing to customers to check outside pipes in particular that can become frozen and burst during periods of cold weather and report leaks they see on the public network to us. Uisce Éireann has lots of helpful tips and advice on protecting your home during cold weather.
