Plans to develop a new wastewater treatment scheme in Liscannor Co. Clare
New wastewater treatment plant will end the discharge of untreated wastewater and enhance local development potential
Irish Water is working in partnership with Clare County Council to end the discharge of untreated wastewater from the Liscannor area. This unacceptable practice is not sustainable and threatens water quality as well as the amenity value of the area.
This project will end the discharge of the equivalent of 1,500 wheelie bins of untreated sewage to Liscannor Bay every day.
Information evening on Wednesday October 3 from 5pm to 7.30pm
A drop-in information evening will take place on Wednesday, October 3 from 5pm to 7.30pm in Liscannor Community Centre. Members of the public are welcome to come along, meet the team and find out more about this project.
“The development of a new wastewater treatment scheme in Liscannor will help to improve water quality, enhance of the area’s amenity value and will act as a platform for social and economic development. This project will also help ensure that the water quality standards set out in relevant legislation will be achieved,” said Joe Kennedy, Irish Water’s Infrastructure Regional Lead.
Construction will commence in 2019 and completed by summer 2021
We expect to lodge a planning application for the scheme with Clare County Council in winter 2018. Further information on the proposed scheme will be provided in the application and a statutory consultation will be held.
Subject to receipt of planning consent, it is envisaged that construction would commence in latter part of 2019 and be complete by summer 2021. We and the appointed contractor will maintain contact with the community in advance of and throughout the works.
