Mains flushing works underway in Ashbourne
Further works in coming months to further improve the water supply.
Irish Water in partnership with Meath County Council is carrying out a programme of watermains flushing in Ashbourne to improve the water supply to homes and business in the area. This programme commenced on Tuesday 30 April and is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday 11 June. During this time flushing of the watermains is being carried out on weekdays from 9am to 5pm. Due to a burst watermain yesterday it was necessary to temporarily suspend the flushing of the water main until the repair was complete and the reservoir replenished. Flushing will re-commence on Monday 27.
Flushing of the water mains will help to safeguard the water supply and will improve the quality of the water supply in the area. During these essential planned works homes and businesses in the area may experience intermittent disruption to their water supply such as low pressure or temporary discolouration of their water supply.
Further to this watermain flushing, Irish Water can confirm that we will be progressing with ice-pigging in the Ashbourne area. We have approved the necessary funding to deliver this work and are accelerating the works to commence as soon as possible. It is anticipated that this work will be completed by year end.
Ice pigging is a process in which an ice slush is pumped into a watermain and forced along the inside so as to remove sediment and other unwanted deposits thus cleaning the pipe.
In the interim the watermain flushing of the network should help alleviate issues with water discolouration in the area.
Irish Water wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused by these essential works that are necessary to safeguard the water supply for homes and businesses in Ashbourne.
