Works in conjunction with Cavan County Council

Irish Water and Cavan County Council are presently carrying out maintenance works on the Bailieborough Water Supply Scheme to maintain a  safe and secure water supply to the Bailieborough, Virginia, Mullagh, and Killinkere areas.

About the works

These routine flushing works are carried out annually on the Bailieborough Water Supply Scheme to prevent the build-up of silt including manganese which occurs naturally in the supply source.

Peter Gallagher Irish Water advises: “Flushing occurs on all schemes every year to clean the watermains of sediment that might build up. There is no manganese issue on the Bailieborough scheme at present. Flushing of the network commenced in late September and we will continue to implement a programme of flushing throughout the winter months as required in order to prevent sediment build-up. Customers may notice slight discolouration of their water during these works.”

Irish Water understands the inconvenience when these types of works are taking place and thanks customers for their patience. Our customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1850 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries.  For updates please see our water supply and services section.

Irish Water continues to work at this time with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services. Irish Water would like to remind people to follow the HSE COVID-19 advice and ensure frequent handwashing.
