Provide for future population growth and economic development

Irish Water working in partnership with Fingal County Council is progressing with works to upgrade and extend the water supply network in Donabate. This project when completed will safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses in Donabate and will provide for future population growth and economic development in the area.

There are 2 elements to this project; one element involves the extension of the water network in the area by installing a new 2.4km trunk main along the R126 Hearse Road.

This section of works is scheduled to commence on Monday 1 July 2019 and is expected to be completed in December 2019. These essential works will require the closure of the western end of the R126 Hearse Road to facilitate the construction of the water main. The works will be undertaken at night from 8pm – 6am to minimise the disruption to residents and businesses from the road closure. GMC Utilities Group Limited is working on behalf of Irish Water to deliver this project.

Working in consultation with Fingal County Council

We have been working in consultation with Fingal County Council to ensure that the works are undertaken in a manner to minimise traffic disruption to the area. The Project Team will work closely with businesses and residents to minimise any potential disruption to traffic or local water supplies.

Irish Water in partnership with Fingal County Council are close to completing the second element of this project which involved the simultaneous delivery of 3.8km of new trunk water main with the construction of the new Donabate Link Road prior to its opening.

The two strands of the project are due for completion in late 2019

Commenting on the project, Paul Hickey, Infrastructure Programme Regional Lead with Irish Water said “This significant project will ensure that the water supply network in Donabate will have the capacity to provide for future population growth and economic development in the area. Developing our water infrastructure to ensure the capacity to meet the current and future needs of the area and support future development is a key priority for Irish Water. Irish Water will continue to update the communities in the area on the progress of this essential water infrastructure investment."
