Representatives from Irish Water met today with Galway County Council to discuss 17 publically sourced group water schemes in the county, following requests from the Group Water Scheme Committees to have the schemes taken in charge by Irish Water. The meeting took place in order to agree on the next steps for take over.

Galway County Council, in partner with the Group Water Scheme Committees have been working to deliver a programme of improvements to the schemes funded by the Department of the Environment and Local Government under the Rural Water Programme. Following the successful completion of these works, the process of taking over the schemes by Irish Water is now being finalised with the schemes due to come under Irish Water responsibility imminently. 

The schemes to be taken over by Irish Water are:

  • Doorus Cornamona
  • Cloghbrack
  • Ryehill
  • Clooncun
  • Derrinver
  • Caherdine
  • Cushatrough (Fountain Hill)

  • Carraghy
  • Glengowla Leam
  • Bullaun Turloughrevagh
  • Doohty Croinnghlinn
  • Garrafrauns
