Celebration of the official opening of the N56 Coolboy to Kilmacrennan Road Scheme
Water infrastructure replaced along N56 and Road Scheme is now complete
Donegal County Council are working with Irish Water to deliver the Letterkenny Regional Water Supply Scheme. The Letterkenny Regional Water Supply Scheme will safeguard the water supply to Letterkenny and surrounding areas.
Donegal County Council delivered over 6km of trunk and distribution mains on behalf of Irish Water as part of the Donegal County Council Road Scheme. This water infrastructure, which is an element of the Letterkenny Regional Water Supply scheme was replaced along the N56 between Coolboy and Kilmacrennan.
To mark the completion of the Road Scheme, Donegal County Council , today, officially opened the road.
Irish Water would like to congratulate them and their Contractor BAM on successful delivery of a critical infrastructure project for communities and businesses in Letterkenny.
What is involved?
Talking about the Letterkenny Regional Water Scheme, Diane Carroll, Irish Water’s Programme Manager said “We are advancing the Letterkenny Regional Water Supply Scheme, across a number of contracts, which consists of two new water treatment plants in Kildarragh and Goldrum, to provide the Creeslough and Letterkenny areas with a safe and secure water supply and over 29km of watermain to improve security of supply in the region. The synergies delivering the water and road improvement works in the area were recognised and as Donegal County Council were implementing a Roads Contract in the area – it included the 6km of watermain to minimise costs and impact on road users.”
Diane added “ Delivering water infrastructure in conjunction with the Road’s project has been more cost effective than if the projects were completed separately. By working together, disruption to the local community has also been significantly reduced”.
Irish Water would like to thank Donegal County Council for their cooperation to deliver this important water supply infrastructure in conjunction with their Road’s Project.
