Uisce Éireann is progressing with watermain improvement works to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses in Ashbourne

25 November 2020

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Meath County Council, is progressing with works to improve the water network in Ashbourne to safeguard the water supply for homes and businesses in the area. The programme involves construction of almost 1 kilometre of new water mains. Uisce Éireann has already completed works along R135 from M2 roundabout to St John Woods Court and would like to thank local residents and commuters for their support and patience during these works.

The next section of works will commence at the end of November. Works will take place along the R135 at Castle Street junction and will then progress from the R135 along Castle Street towards Castle Street/Declan Street junction. Following completion of this phase, works will re-commence on the R135 at St John’s Wood Court progressing towards Tudor Grove. Following this works will extend to Tudor Grove between R135 and the entrance to Huntsgrove.

These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme. These works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Group Ltd. and are expected to be completed in March 2021.

Uisce Éireann has planned the works in short sections in order to limit impact on customers. Works may involve some short-term water shut offs and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water shut offs.

Traffic management will be in place over the course of the works including a lane closure on Castle Street for a period of 3 weeks from 30 November 2020. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times. An alternative route will be available and diversions will be clearly sign posted. It is planned to remove the closure prior to the Christmas period.

Commenting on the project, Liam Henry, Uisce Éireann said, ‘The construction of these new water mains in Ashbourne will safeguard the water supply for local residents and businesses. It will also increase the capacity and improve the resilience of the water network in Ashbourne and support continued growth within the community.'

Uisce Éireann and Meath County Council understands this type of work can be inconvenient and will ensure our work crews make every effort to minimise any disruption these works may cause. We wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused by these essential works that are necessary to safeguard the water supply for homes and businesses in Ashbourne.

Residents and businesses in the areas of the works can call the Uisce Éireann customer helpline on 1800 278 278 for any questions in relation to the works.
