Irish Water investing in Wicklow’s Reservoirs
Work will be carried out on the Valleymount and Ballyknockan Reservoirs from Tuesday, 30 May to Thursday, 1 June
Irish Water in partnership with Wicklow County Council, is continuing to carrying out the final phase of a programme of maintenance work on Wicklow’s reservoirs. The project is being carried out to inspect the condition of the reservoirs and to enable Irish Water to carry out any maintenance works that may be required. These works will improve the quality of the drinking water and increase the security of the supply for the people of Wicklow.
From 12:00 noon on Tuesday, 30 May to 12:00 noon on Thursday, 1 June work will be carried out on the Valleymount and Ballyknockan reservoirs. Work was recently completed on the Hollywood and Donard reservoirs. Work will be carried out on the Barndarrig reservoir from Tuesday, 20 to Friday 23 June. Work was completed last year on the Coolboy/Coolafancy, Kiltegan, Knockananna, Knockanarrigan, Rathdangan, Stratford, and Thomastown Reservoirs.
To facilitate the work on the Valleymount and Ballyknockan reservoirs tankers will be located in the carpark opposite the Star pub in Valleymount and in the Cullen pub carpark in Ballyknockan.
Irish Water has written to all households and businesses before the planned work is scheduled to take place to keep them informed on the programme of works.
Planned Programme of Maintenance
|Name of Reservoir||Planned Date of Maintenance Work||
|Valleymount / Ballyknockan||Tuesday 30 May – Thursday 1 June||
|Barndarrig||Tuesday 20 –
Friday 23 June
|Location will be confirmed closer to the works commencing|
To facilitate the maintenance work, the reservoirs will be emptied, which may cause an interruption to customers’ water supplies. The works at each reservoir will take two to three days to complete and alternative water supplies, through the provision of water tankers, will be provided to customers during the duration of the work. Once the reservoirs are drained an inspection will be carried out to determine if any upgrade work is required. This might require the reservoirs to be out of service for longer, but customers kept informed on all updates during the project. All the reservoirs will also be cleaned during the programme.
Commenting on the programme Ger Brady, Regional Engineer at Irish Water said “Irish Water is committed to providing a high quality and secure water supply for the people of Wicklow. It is important for us to inspect all our assets and carry out routine maintenance work. We have recently completed the Hollywood and Donard reservoirs and will now carry out work on the Valleymount and Ballyknockan reservoirs from Tuesday, 30 May to Thursday, 1 June. We apologise to customers who may be impacted by water interruptions during programme. I wish to reassure our customers that this programme is important part of Irish Waters ongoing improvement works on our water infrastructure in County Wicklow”.
