Nightly restrictions on Inis Oirr remain in place

Irish Water and Galway County Council are pleased to inform customers on Inis Mór that the nightly water supply restrictions which have been in place since Monday, May 15 have ceased with immediate effect.

However, residents, businesses and visitors to the island are urged to continue conserving water throughout the summer to ensure the drinking water supplies are maintained at a consistent level.

Heavy and persistent rainfall has led to a restocking of the water stores on the island. However, Irish Water would like to inform customers that due to the continuation of leak detection and repair works on the island, there may be some disruptions to supply.

Meanwhile, Irish Water has commenced tankering water to Inis Oirr to ensure the availability of a drinking water supply for islanders and visitors. Night time water restrictions on Inis Oirr from 11pm to 7am will remain in place for the foreseeable future.

People living and working on the island and visitors to the island are asked to please continue conserving water throughout the summer.

Irish Water would also like to remind customers on Inis Meain that the water conservation notice issued for the island on May 4 remains in place.

Working in partnership with Galway County Council, Irish Water is asking people supplied by these public water schemes on the three islands to conserve water as much as possible and to report any leaks they see on the public network by calling our customer care helpline which is open 24/7 on 1850 278 278.

With demand on water supplies expected to increase even further over the summer months, Irish Water is asking the public for their assistance by reporting all leaks to help conserve water and reduce loss of water in the network due to leakage.

Irish Water and Galway County Council would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank the public in advance for their co-operation. Irish Water will continue to update consumers on the situation and will advise when they can return to normal usage.

Irish Water’s Top Tips for Conserving Water

  • Leak free: Check that your home is leak free. Check for running overflows and fix any dripping taps, cisterns or pipes.
  • Don’t let the tap run: Brushing your teeth with the tap running can use up to a staggering 6 litres per minute. Brushing your teeth with the tap off will use a more modest 1 litre of water.
  • Shower vs. Bath: The average bath uses 80 litres of water compared to an average shower using 49 litres in seven minutes. Switch your bath to a shower for a massive water saving.
  • Less time: With the average shower using 7 litres of water per minute by turning your five minute shower into four minutes, you could save up to 7 litres of water per day!
  • Fully loaded: Always ensure your dishwasher and washing machines are fully loaded. A modern washing machine uses approximately 65 litres of water per cycle while a dishwasher uses 20 litres. By ensuring they are fully loaded, not only will you conserve water but you will also reduce your energy bills.
  • Don’t flush it all away: A third of all water used in the home is flushed down the toilet. Some larger cisterns can continue to work effectively with a smaller flush. Place a displacement device into the cistern (out of the way of moving parts) to save water.
  • Don’t forget to collect: Rainwater is excellent for your garden. Collect it in a water butt from your gutters but always make sure to securely cover the large container for safety.

Dhearbhaigh Uisce Éireann go mbaineadh na srianta uisce ar Inis Mór, ach impítear ar chónaitheoirí uisce a chaomhnú le linn an tsamhraidh

Tá tús curtha leis an iompar uisce go hInis Oírr, ach fágtar srianta i bhfeidhm gach oíche

Is cúis áthais d’Uisce Éireann agus do Chomhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe a fhógairt do chustaiméirí ar Inis Mór go gcuirfear deireadh láithreach leis na srianta uisce a raibh i bhfeidhm ón Luan, 15 Bealtaine.

Impítear ar chónaitheoirí, ghnóthaí agus chuairteoirí, áfach, uisce a chaomhnú le linn an tsamhraidh ionas go gcoinnítear soláthar uisce ag leibhéal seasmhach.

D’athstocáil an stóráil uisce mar gheall ar bháisteach throm mharthanach ar an oileán. Ba mhaith le hUisce Éireann a chur in iúl do chustaiméirí, áfach, gur seans ann go gcuirfear isteach ar an soláthar toisc go bhfuil brath sceithe chomh maith le hoibreacha deisiúcháin fós ar siúl ar an oileán.

Idir an dá linn, tá tús curtha leis an iompar uisce go hInis Oírr ionas go gcinnítear go mbeidh soláthar uisce inólta ar fáil do chuairteoirí agus do mhuintir an oileáin. Coimeádfar na srianta uisce i bhfeidhm gach oíche ó 11i.n go 7r.n ar Inis Oírr go ceann tamaill.

Iarrtar ar dhaoine a bhfuil ag obair nó ina gcónaí ar an oileán, chomh maith le cuairteoirí chun uisce a chaomhnú le linn an tsamhraidh.

Ba mhaith le hUisce Éireann a chur in iúl don phobal go bhfuil an fógra caomhnaithe uisce a cuireadh i bhfeidhm ar Inis Meáin ar an 4ú Bealtaine fós ann.

Ag obair i gcomhpháirtíocht le Comhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe, iarrann Uisce Éireann ar dhaoine a fhaigheann a gcuid uisce ó na scéimeanna uisce poiblí seo ar na trí oileán an méid uisce is gur féidir leo a chaomhnú. Is féidir le daoine aon sceitheadh a fheiceann siad ar an líonra poiblí a thuairisciú trí ghlaoch a chur ar an líne chabhrach do chustaiméirí – líne atá oscailte 24/7 ag 1850 278 278.

Táthar ag súil go méadófar an t-éileamh ar sholáthar uisce thar an tsamhraidh. Mar sin, iarrann Uisce Éireann ar an bpobal a bheith cabhrach agus aon sceitheadh a fheiceann siad a thuairisciú. Cinnteoidh sé seo go caomhnófar uisce agus go laghdófar an méid uisce a éalaíonn ón líonra de bharr sceite.

Ba mhaith le hUisce Éireann agus Comhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe a leithscéal a ghabháil as aon mhíchaoithiúlacht, agus a mbuíochas a ghabháil don phobal roimh ré as ucht a chomhoibrithe. Tabharfaidh Uisce Éireann an t-eolas is déanaí do thomhaltóirí faoin staid agus comhairleofar iad nuair is féidir leo filleadh ar ghnáthúsáid. Comhairle Uisce Éireann chun uisce a chaomhnú

  • Sceitheadh uisce: Déan scrúdú sa mbaile go bhfeicfidh tú an bhfuil uisce ag sceitheadh in aon áit. An bhfuil aon sconna ag síleadh, seiceáil an bhfuil na píopaí i gceart agus an leithreas agus an t-umar uisce ag feidhmiú mar is ceart.
  • Cas as an sconna: Má fhágann tú an sconna ag rith agus tú ag scuabadh do chuid fiacla, tá tú in ann 6 lítear sa nóiméad a chur amú. Scuab do chuid fiacla agus an sconna casta as agus ní chaitheann tú ach lítear amháin uisce.
  • Cith v Folca: Caitear 80 lítear ar an meán ar an ngnáth-fholca seachas an 49 lítear a chaithear ar an mean sa chith i seacht nóiméad.
  • Níos lú ama: Agus an gnáth chith ag úsáid 7 lítear uisce sa nóiméad, má chaitheann tú cheithre nóiméad sa chith seachas cúig, d’fhéadfá suas le 7 lítear uisce sa ló a shábháil.
  • Lán go doras: Déan cinnte go bhfuil an meaisín níocháin agus an miasniteoir lán go doras gach uair a chuireann tú ar siúl iad. Úsáideann meaisín comhaimseartha suas le 65 lítear uisce gach babhta agus an miasniteoir 20 lítear. Agus tú ag cinntiú go bhfuil siad lán go doras, tá tú ag caomhnú uisce agus ag íslú do chuid billí fuinnimh freisin.
  • Ná sruthlaigh i gcónaí: Sruthlaítear aon trian den uisce a úsáidtear sa mbaile síos an leithreas. Is féidir le roinnt sistéil móra leanacht orthu ag obair le sruthlú níos lú. Cuir fearas díláithriú isteach sa sistéal chun uisce a chaomhnú.
  • Bí ag bailiú: Tá uisce báistí an-mhaith don ghairdín. Bailigh é i mButa Uisce óna gáitéir ach déan cinnte go bhfuil an umar clúdaithe go sábháilte agat.
