Night time restrictions have been lifted on Inis Mór and Inis Meain following recent, heavy rainfall

Irish Water and Galway County Council wish to advise residents and business owners on Inis Mór and Inis Meain that night time restrictions on their water supply have been lifted following recent, heavy rainfall which has replenished water reserves.

Commenting, Tim O’Connor, Irish Water said “There is good news for Inis Mór following the recent rain. The reservoirs are reasonably full and there is currently enough water in storage on the island to cater for locals and incoming tourists.

“Reserves are also rising slowly on Inis Meain, while also taking into account the tourist season.

“We would like to thank everyone who was impacted by these restrictions which were absolutely necessary due to the very low levels of water on the islands following one of our driest periods in history for their conservation efforts and patience.”

Inis Oirr restrictions remain

Night time restrictions on Inis Oirr will remain in place from 9pm to 9am for the foreseeable future and Irish Water and Galway County Council will continue to monitor the water levels on a daily basis.

Residents, businesses and visitors to the three islands are urged to continue conserving water wherever possible to ensure a continuous daily water supply is available for all. Customers are also reminded to continue to follow HSE Covid-19 guidance on hand washing.

Conserve where possible

While handwashing remains a priority, simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on the supply. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to 6 litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use. We are also reminding people with responsibility for properties that are currently unoccupied to check for leaks and turn off water where it is not required. There are lots more tips on how to conserve water in your home on our website Conservation page.

Irish Water is working at this time with our local authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of drinking water and wastewater services.

Fógraíonn Uisce Éireann go bhfuil deireadh leis na srianta uisce in Inis Mór

Fógraíonn Uisce Éireann go bhfuil deireadh leis na srianta uisce in Inis Mór

Is mian le Uisce Éireann agus Comhairle Contae na Gaillimhe a chuir in iúl do chónaitheoirí agus lucht gnó in Inis Mór go bhfuil deireadh á chur leis na srianta agus ciondáil ar an soláthar uisce tar éis an bhaisteach throm a thit a athlíon leibhéal uisce an taiscumar.

Ag labhairt dó faoin scéal is déanaí deir Tim O’Connor, Uisce Éireann gur “Deá-scéal atá anseo go Inis Mór théis an bhaisteach throm a thit le tamall anuas. Tá na taiscumair athlíonta agus ag leibhéal sásúil a dhóthain, rud a chiallaíonn go bhfuil dóthain uisce i dtaisce do mhuintir na háite, do ghnóanna agus do thuarasóirí nuair a thagann siad isteach ar an oileán. Tá na leibhéil ag ardú go mall in Inis Meáin freisin, ach caithfear na turasóirí a bheas ag teacht chuig na hoileáin a ghlacadh sa áireamh agus muid ag féachaint chun cinn. Ba mhaith linn buíochas a ghlacadh leo siúd uilig a raibh tionchar ag na srianta seo orthu, tuigeann muid go raibh sé dúshlánach agus gach eile a bhí ag tarlú maidir leis an bpandéim ach bhí géar ghá leis na srianta agus an ciondáil mar gheall go raibh na leibhéil uisce thar a bheith íseal. Murach na srianta seo a bheith curtha i bhfeidhm, ní bheadh dóthain uisce chun lámha a níochán agus mar sin de.”

Caithfear na sriata uisce a choinneáil i bhfeidhm ar Inis Oírr ón 9i.n go dtí an 9r.n faraor ach coinneoidh Uisce Éireann agus Comhairle Contae na Gaillimhe súil ar na leibhéil uisce go laethúil ansin.

Tá muid ag fiafraí ar an bpobal a bheith aireach ar an chaoi a úsáideann siad uisce. Tá sé tábhachtach áfach leanacht ag níochán lámha ag leanacht treoireacha Feidhmeannach na Seirbhísí Sláinte.

Cé go bhfuil níochán lámha fós rí-thábhachacht, is féidir le iarrachtaí beaga ó thaobh caomhnú uisce in ann tionchar mór a bheith acu ar an soláthar uisce i gcoitinne. Cas as an sconnna agus tú ag scuabadh do chuid fiacla nó do bhearradh féin, sábháileann sé sin 6 lítear. Glac cith in áit folcadh nó úsáid a bhaint as canna spréite in áit píobán chun an gairdín a uisciú. Tá na moltaí seo símplí ach is fiú iad a chuir i bhfeidhm. Ina dteannta siúd, meabhraíonn muid dóibh siúd atá i bhfeidhil foirgnimh nó áitreabh folamh, an tuisce a chasadh as nuair nach bhfuil aon duine ann. Tá breis leideanna ar an suíomh idirlíon maidir le caomhnú uisce https://water.ie/conservation

Tá Uisce Éireann ag obair i láthair na huaire lenár gcomhpháirtithe sna hUdaráis Áitiúil, conraitheoirí agus eile chun sláinte agus sábháilteacht ár mbaill foirne agus an pobal a chinntiú i rith an éigeandáil seo agus chun seirbhísí uisce agus fuíolluisce a choinneáil ag imeacht.

Ba mhaith le Uisce Éireann agus Comhairle Contae na Gaillimhe buíochas a ghlacadh leis an bpobal agus muid ag leanacht leis an obair soláthar uisce a choinneáil ag imeacht.
