Irish Water continues to make progress on the Athlone wastewater project to safeguard the environment and provide for future growth and development

When completed, the project will reduce the risk of sewer flooding in Athlone 

  • Sewer overflows to the River Shannon will be reduced
  • New pumping stations will be built in Golden Island and Coosan West
  • It is expected that works will begin in the second half of 2022

  • A lane closure will be required on the Damastown Link Road 
  • Closure will begin on Monday, 25 January for a period of five days

Over 40 tonnes of carbon will be saved every year

  • 230 solar panels installed on roof of Water Treatment Plant
  • 83,264 kWh of electricity will be generated per year 
  • These solar panels have a 25-year power output warranty

Night-time outage in Navan Town due to essential works to secure the water supply

Outage is required to facilitate emergency works on the Navan trunk water main

  • Low water pressure and/or outages from 10:00pm 21 until 2:00am 22 January
  • Update will provide a safer more secure water supply for the town
  • It may take 2-3 hours for normal water supply to return
