Keith Finnegan Show visits Terryland Water Treatment Plant for Engineers Week
Show will cover the important role engineers play in daily lives
As part as part of Engineers Week 2019 the Keith Finnegan show, Galway Bay FM will hold a live one hour broadcast from the Terryland Water Treatment Plant at 11am on March 6. Keith will be joined by engineers from Irish Water, Galway City Council and the Mayor of Galway, Neil McNelis, to discuss the important role that engineers and water play in our daily lives.
Engineers Week encourages primary and post-primary students, their teachers and parents, and the wider community to explore the exciting world of engineering as well as highlighting the diverse and rewarding career opportunities engineering offers to all.
Water in Galway City
Everyday Irish Water and Galway City Council produce 42 million litres of water for homes and businesses across the city. The water goes through five reservoirs, pumping stations and 450 kilometres of network. The programme will show that treating water is a complex process and how Irish Water and Galway City Council are focusing on cutting down on leakage across the City. The Mayor Of Galway City, Neil McNeilis, will discuss just how important water is for homes and businesses across the city.
Commenting on the broadcast Sean Corrigan of Irish Water said “We would like to give people living and working in Galway City a real insight into the complexity of water treatment and the delivery of water services. One of our aims is to reassure people that the water which comes out of their taps meets all European Drinking Water Standards."
"We would also like to give the local community a broad understanding of the various engineering disciplines involved in operating a plant of this size including civil, mechanical, electrical, and chemical. Engineers Week is a great way to raise the profile of the engineering industry to budding engineers of all ages and we hope that some of the students who visited today will be Ireland’s engineers of the future."
