Previous Updates

Following consultation with the Health Service Executive (HSE) Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Galway County Council, has issued a Do Not Consume Notice for Inis Oírr Public Water Supply following elevated levels of manganese in the water supply.

The notice has been issued to protect approximately 257 customers supplied by Inis Oírr Public Water Supply.

View a map of the affected area

It is especially important that mains drinking water is not given to bottle fed infants.

Please note this is not a Boil Water Notice. Boiling the water will not reduce manganese levels and is therefore not a suitable measure to make the water safe to consume.

Alternative water supplies will be in place and further details of the locations of the supplies will be provided later this afternoon. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Uisce Éireann drinking water compliance and operational experts are working with colleagues in Galway County Council to resolve this situation as soon as possible.

Speaking about the imposition of the notice, Rónan Daly, Regional Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann said “Uisce Éireann is aware of the impact a Do Not Consume Notice is having on the community and would like to reassure impacted customers that we are working hard to lift the notice as quickly and as safely as possible. We would ask customers who have concerns to contact our customer care team on 1800 278 278.”

This water should not be used for

  • Drinking
  • Drinks made with water
  • Food preparation, washing or cooking of food,
  • Brushing of teeth
  • Making of ice
  • Children under 12 months old should not drink this water
  • In particular, children under 12 months old should not drink this water. This water should not be used for making up infant formula for bottled fed infants. An alternative source of water should be used. Bottled water can also be used to make up infant formula. All bottled water, with the exception of natural mineral water, is regulated to the same standard as drinking water. It is best not to use bottled water labelled as ‘Natural Mineral Water’ as it can have high levels of sodium (salt) and other minerals, although it rarely does. ‘Natural Mineral Water’ can be used if no other water is available, for as short a time as possible, as it is important to keep babies hydrated.
  • If bottled water is used to make up infant formula it should be boiled once (rolling boil for 1 minute), and cooled in the normal way
  • Ready-to-use formula that does not need added water can also be used.
  • Domestic water filters will not render water safe to drink
  • Caution should be taken when bathing infants to ensure that they do not swallow the bathing water
  • Discard ice cubes in fridges and freezers and filtered water in fridges

What can you use water for?

  • The water can be used for personal hygiene, bathing, flushing toilets, laundry and washing of utensils
  • Uisce Éireann and Galway County Council will continue to liaise with the Health Service Executive with a view to lifting this drinking water restriction as soon as practicable.

Updates will be available on Twitter @IWCare and via our customer care helpline, open 24/7 on 1800 278 278.

An Dáta a Tháinig an Foláireamh Ná hÓl i bhFeidhm: 16 Meán Fómhair 2022

De bharr leibhéil ard mangainéis san soláthar uisce, tá sé seo tar éis cur isteach ar chaighdeán an uisce óil ag dul isteach i soláthar uisce Inis Oírr.

Mar thoradh air sin, agus tar éis dul i gcomhairle le Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte, tá Uisce Éireann agus Comhairle Contae na Gaillimhe ag eisiúint Foláireamh Ná hÓl le teacht i bhfeidhm láithreach bonn ar mhaithe le sláinte tomhaltóirí a chosaint.

Baineann an foláireamh seo le gach tomhaltóir a fhaigheann soláthar Inis Oírr.

Beidh tancaeir uisce á chur ar fáil don phobal agus beidh a thuille eolais maidir leis na h-ionaid a bheas na tancaeir lonnaithe ag teacht go luath.

TÁBHACHTACH: Ní Foláireamh Maidir le hUisce a Bheiriú é seo, sé sin, ní leor do chuid uisce a bheiriú agus ligint dó fuarú chun é a dhéanamh sábháilte le hól.

Tá sé ríthábhachtach nach n-ólann aon thomhaltóir lena mbaineann an foláireamh seo a gcuid uisce.

Is féidir teacht ar léarscáil a léiríonn na háiteanna atá buailte ag seo, ar www.water.ie agus tá sé curtha isteach leis an bhfoláireamh seo freisin.

Ceantair Buailte ag Seo:

Gach tomhaltóir a fhaigheann soláthar uisce Inis Oírr

1: Ní ceart uisce a úsáid:

  • Le haghaidh óil
  • Chun deochanna a dhéantar le huisce a ullmhú
  • Chun sailéid agus bianna eile mar iad nach ndéantar a chócaráil sula n-itear iad a ullmhú
  • Chun fiacla a scuabhadh/nó béal duine a fholcadh
  • Chun leac oighir a dhéanamh. É sin ráite, déan deimhin de go gcaitheann tú amach aon chiúb oighir atá ann cheana i gcuisneoirí agus i reoiteoirí agus uisce scagtha i gcuisneoirí.

2: Féadfaidh tú do chuid uisce a úsáid le haghaidh na nithe seo a leanas:

  • Sláinteachas pearsanta, folcadh nó cithfholcadh a bheith agat
  • Leithris a shruthlú
  • Uisce a chur ar phlandaí agus ar bhláthanna

3: Fainic:

  • Ní fhágfaidh scagairí go bhfuil uisce tí sábháilte lena ól
  • Ba chóir a bheith cúramach agus páistí á bhfolcadh agat le nach slogfaidh siad an t-uisce folctha
  • Caith amach ciúbanna oighir i gcuisneoirí agus i reoiteoirí agus uisce scagtha i gcuisneoirí.
  • Má tá peataí agat agus imní ort faoin tionchar a d’fhéadfadh a bheith orthu má ólann siad uisce ón bpríomhlíonra le linn don Fholáireamh Ná hÓl seo a bheith i bhfeidhm, ba cheart dul i gcomhairle le do thréidlia áitiúil.

4: Ní ceart Uisce Buidéil/Ullmhaithe a úsáid ach sna cásanna seo a leanas.

  • Nuair atá bianna á n-ullmhú agat nach ndéanfar iad a chócaráil (m. sh. le linn sailéid a ní agus a ullmhú);
  • Ag Ullmhú Bainne Foirmle Do Naíonáin Nuair atá Foláireamh Ná hÓl i bhfeidhm, is féidir bainne foirmle do naíonáin a ullmhú le huisce buidéil. Déantar gach uisce i mbuidéil, seachas uisce mianraí nádúrtha, a rialú ar an gcaighdeán céanna le huisce óil. Is fearr gan uisce i mbuidéil a bhfuil lipéad mar ‘Uisce Mianra Nádúrtha’ air a úsáid mar go bhféadfadh leibhéil arda sóidiam (salann) agus mianraí eile a bheith ann, cé gur annamh a bhíonn. Is féidir ‘Uisce Mianra Nádúrtha’ a úsáid mura bhfuil aon uisce eile ann, ar feadh tréimhse ama chomh gearr agus is féidir, mar tá sé tábhachtach go bhfuil a ndóthain le hól ag leanaí. Má úsáidtear uisce i mbuidéil chun bainne foirmle a dhéanamh do naíonáin ba chóir é a fhiuchadh uair amháin (fiuchadh leanúnach ar feadh 1 nóiméad), agus lig dó fuarú mar is iondúil. Is féidir leas a bhaint freisin as foirmle réidh-le-húsáid nár ghá a thuilleadh uisce a chur isteach ann.

5: Bí Faichilleach i gCónaí:

  • Agus uisce buidéil á bheiriú chun foirmle do naíonáin a ullmhú, go láimhseáiltear an t-uisce beirthe go cúramach ar mhaithe le dó agus scalladh a sheachaint. B’fhurasta a tharlaíonn timpistí, go háirithe nuair atá páistí thart.

6: Cé chomh fada a thógfaidh sé sula gcuirfear deireadh leis an foláireamh Ná hÓl?

  • Níl a fhios againn faoi láthair, ach leanfaidh Uisce Éireann ag plé agus ag dul i gcomhairle le Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte ar mhaithe le deireadh a chur leis an bhFoláireamh Ná hÓl chomh luath agus is féidir.

7: Conas a choimeádfaimid ar an eolas thú?

  • Coimeádfar ar an eolas thú trí na meáin seo a leanas:
  • Suíomh gréasáin:www.water.ie
  • Ionad Teagmhála Uisce Éireann do Chustaiméirí: 1800 278 278
  • Na Meáin áitiúla
  • Rachfar i dteagmháil go díreach le custaiméirí leochaileacha a chláraigh a gcuid sonraí le hUÉ, ach má tá cúnamh sa bhreis uait ná bíodh leisce ort teagmháil a dhéanamh le hUisce Éireann chun do chuid riachtanas a phlé linn.

8: Feasacht ó thaobh áitribh tráchtála de

  • Iarrann Uisce Éireann go gcuirfear an Foláireamh Ná hÓl seo in áit fheiceálach laistigh de d’áitreabh tráchtála
  • Cuimhnigh – ná hól do chuid uisce féin, mar a mholtar, go dtí go bhfógrófar a mhalairt
