Do Not Drink notice for Rathkeale Public Water Supply has been lifted with immediate effect
Decision follows consultation with the HSE
Irish Water is pleased to confirm that the Do Not Drink notice that has been in place for the Rathkeale public water supply has now been lifted. Customers in the area can now resume normal use of their water for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth. The lifting of the notice this afternoon follows consultation with the HSE and satisfactory monitoring results to confirm the new water supply is safe to drink.
“We are very pleased that this notice has now been lifted following intensive work by staff from Irish Water, Limerick City and County Council and our contractors, with support from the HSE,” said Ian O’Mahony of Irish Water. “This involved identifying a new water source, drilling and testing a new borehole and putting all the associated infrastructure in place to replace the existing source which has become unviable. The completion of this work in a relatively short timeframe has enabled us to bring the new water into production and lift the Do Not Drink notice.
“We would like to thank the people of Rathkeale, local businesses and elected representatives for their patience and support while this work was carried out, and acknowledge the inconvenience they experienced as a result of this issue. I would also like to pay tribute to all the staff who worked tirelessly over the past two weeks to resolve this issue.”
New water source found
Works will continue at the Kilcolman Pumphouse site over the coming weeks to bring the new source into full production and complete all the other associated works on site. Initial testing indicates that this is a very good source of water which should provide the people of Rathkeale and surrounding areas with a safe, secure and reliable water supply now and into the future.
