Irish Water and Cork Co. Council are working to restore normal supply

Tuesday, October 3, 2017 - Irish Water and Cork County Council have now restored a water supply to the majority of customers in Banteer following an unplanned shut-down of the supply on Sunday.

A new water source has been brought on line and this is being supplemented by water from other local schemes to supply Banteer and the surrounding areas.

While water supply should be returning to all customers over the coming hours, it may take another 24 hours for full flows to be restored. During this time, water pressure may be low in some areas. As this issue is being resolved, we would ask customers in the Banteer area to continue to conserve their supply.

Irish Water apologises for any inconvenience caused as a result of this unplanned event and thanks our customers in Banteer for their patience while we worked to resolve it.

Further updates will be available on the Service and Supply section of the Irish Water website, or via the 24/7 customer care line at 1850 278 278.

Monday, October 2, 2017 -Irish Water and Cork County Council are working to restore a normal water supply in the village of Banteer and surrounding areas after the supply was shut down yesterday afternoon due to an unexpected change in the colour of the water from the local spring source.

As this was unusual for this particular source, a decision was made in the interest of public safety to shut down the supply while the issue was being investigated.

While these investigations are ongoing, Irish Water and Cork County Council are supplementing the supply by bringing in tankers of treated water. This is being fed directly into the water network at present in order to maintain a water supply to as many customers as possible.

Three additional tankers will also be made available in public areas for customers who are experiencing disruption to their supply. They will be located at the following locations:

  • Banteer Church
  • Banteer School
  • Rathcool School

We would request customers in the Banteer area who currently have a supply to continue to conserve their water. Our customer care helpline is open 24/7 and we would encourage any vulnerable customers who are not registered with us to contact us on 1850 278 278 for further information.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of this unforeseen event which we are working as a matter of priority to resolve as quickly as possible.

Regular updates will be posted on the Service and Supply section.
