Crossakiel, Moylagh, Drumone, Newcastle and surrounding areas impacted

Uisce Éireann crews are working to restore water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers following a large burst to a water main impacting Crossakiel, Moylagh, Drumone, Newcastle and surrounding areas in Co Meath

Every effort is being made to reduce the impact on homes and businesses, however, the repair works are complex due to the location of the pipe and the presence of other underground services. Due to the size of the burst, reservoirs have depleted to unsafe levels and crews are working hard to replenish storage levels and maintain supplies while repairs are being completed.

Following repairs, it may take until tomorrow morning before water supply is restored to all customers, especially those at the end of the network or on higher ground. As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes. A further update will be provided tomorrow morning.

Uisce Éireann continues to appeal to customers to conserve water to help restore normal water supply to impacted customers as quickly as possible. While handwashing remains a priority, simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to 6 litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use.
