Communities in Inchydoney and Clonakility set to benefit from improved water supply
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
The communities of Inchydoney and Clonakilty in West Cork will soon benefit from a more secure and reliable water supply with Uisce Éireann set to begin network improvement works next week to reduce high levels of leakage in the area.
The works will take place in Cloheen, Clonakilty and involve the replacement of nearly 1 kilometre of aged watermains prone to bursts as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, is looking forward to getting this important project underway for the community.
“Replacing these old and damaged pipes will significantly lower the instances of bursts and outages on the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground. The works will also improve the operation of the network by reducing the need for frequent repairs to aged watermains. In advance of the works commencing, we would like to thank the local community for their support and patience as we carry out these essential works”
To safely and efficiently deliver this project, traffic management will be in place in the form of traffic lights or stop / go using traffic marshals. From 30 June to 04 July, a five-day road closure will also be in place on L-4011, Clonakilty. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be complete by August.
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
Details of any supply interruptions associated to this project will be updated regularly on the Water Supply Updates section of the Uisce Éireann website. Customers can phone Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 with any questions about the project.
Identifying and repairing leaks will help Uisce Éireann to achieve its 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The national Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%.
