Boil Water Notice in Co. Limerick lifted following €300,000 investment
Investment has enabled a safer and more secure supply
Irish Water is pleased to announce that a long-standing Boil Water Notice affecting six premises in Loughill, Co. Limerick has now been lifted.
The lifting of the notice, on the advice of the Health Service Executive, follows the completion of work to connect the Loughill Public Water Supply to the Foynes Shannon Estuary supply and the subsequent recording of satisfactory monitoring results. Its removal means that there are no boil water notices currently in place in the county.
This notice was put in place by Irish Water and Limerick City and County Council in April 2015 due to the concerns that these houses could potentially receive water without adequate chlorine treatment.
To address this situation and improve the overall water supply to Loughill, Irish Water approved funding of over €300,000 to connect the Loughill supply to the nearby Estuary Public Water Supply. This work, which involved the construction of 3.5km of new water mains, was completed in recent weeks and testing was carried out to ensure compliance with water quality standards.
In addition to the lifting of the boil water notice for these six properties, the completion of this work means that approximately 300 people supplied by the Loughill supply will now enjoy a much more reliable and better quality water supply into the future.

We are pleased to confirm that, as a result of this work, all those served by the Loughill Water Supply Scheme and not just those who were on a Boil Water Notice will now enjoy a much improved water supply.”
Irish Water and the local authority/HSE Water Quality Liaison Group will continue to meet and review ongoing process control, monitoring and testing of the drinking water supply.
