Bellaghy customers transferred back to Lough Talt Water Supply following €10m upgrade works by Uisce Éireann

01 December 2020

Uisce Éireann working in partnership with Sligo and Mayo County Councils would like to advise customers in the Bellaghy area that they have been transferred from the Charlestown Public Water Supply back to the Lough Talt Water Supply following the lifting of the boil water notice on the Lough Talt Supply last week.

The boil water notice issued on the Lough Talt Water Supply on 11 January 2019 was lifted in consultation with the HSE following a €10 million investment by Uisce Éireann.

Georgina O’Reilly, Uisce Éireann, comments: “Uisce Éireann acknowledges the impact and inconvenience caused by the imposition of this boil water notice to homes and businesses. Our priority is the provision of safe, clean drinking water and safeguarding that water supply for the future is a vital focus. We are delighted that the boil water notice has been lifted and all customers are now enjoying a safe and secure drinking water supply.

As part of the upgrade works which enabled the lifting of the Boil Water Notice, Uisce Éireann installed new robust treatment processes at the Lough Talt Water Treatment Plant. The completed works mitigate against THM formation, protect against cryptosporidium, and improve the water quality.

Should customers have any queries regarding the lifting of this notice they can check out the Supply and Service Updates section or contact us directly on Twitter @IWCare and via our customer care helpline which is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278.
