18 November 2022

Uisce Éireann is delighted to officially announce that works have commenced on the upgrade of Jones Bridge Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Clonakilty which will provide a more reliable water supply for the town.

Working in partnership with Cork County Council, the project will benefit over 16,700 customers, ensuring the continued delivery of clean, safe drinking water to the town.

Speaking about the project, Regional Infrastructure Delivery Lead for Uisce Éireann, Ian O’Neill said, “The upgrade works carried out as part of this project will ensure the continued delivery of safe, clean drinking water to residents and businesses in the surrounding area.  We look forward to working with the local community as we continue to invest in the town’s future.”

As part of the Jones Bridge WTP upgrade, Uisce Éireann will upgrade several aspects of the treatment plant and install a new raw water monitoring system, new flocculation tanks, upgrade the clarification and filtration processes as well as upgrading the sludge infrastructure.

The works, being carried out by Glan Agua Limited, are expected to be complete by early 2025.

Combined with the construction of approximately 13.5km of new watermains from Bandon to Clonakilty, the people of Clonakilty and surrounding areas can look forward to their communities having a more reliable water supply now and for future generations to come.
