Current old and damaged water mains to be replaced with a new connection from Macroney

Irish Water is working to provide a more secure and reliable water supply for the people of Castlecooke and surrounding areas by replacing old and damaged water mains with a new connection from Macroney.

There have been frequent outages on the Castlecooke supply due to the age and poor condition of the water mains network, with an average of 11 bursts per year in recent years.

To address this, the existing supply at Castlecooke is to be replaced with a new connection to the nearby Macroney Water Supply Scheme. This will require 4km of new water mains to be laid, representing an investment of almost €500,000.

Protection against future outages due to burst pipes and other issues

This will ensure a much more secure supply and protect against outages in the future due to burst pipes and other issues.

“People in the Castlecooke area have been experiencing disruption to their water supply for years because of frequent bursts in the aging water mains. We plan to address this by connecting Castlecooke to the Macroney Water Supply via 4km of new water mains,” said Paul Cremin, Capital Programmes Regional Lead.

“Irish Water is very pleased to be moving forward with this essential project which will lead to a much improved water supply for the area.”

The construction work, which will be carried out by Jimmy O’Regan Plant Hire Ltd, is due to get underway in early May and is expected to take approximately 16 weeks to complete.

Irish Water will work with Cork County Council and our contractors to ensure that any disruption to residents and road users is kept to a minimum and we thank the local community for their patience and support while this essential work is being carried out.
