Irish Water is reminding all households in the country who have not already registered their details with the utility that they have just one week remaining to do so to be eligible to apply for the Government’s €100 Water Conservation Grant. A €100 Water Conservation Grant will be paid beginning in September 2015 to all households that have registered with Irish Water by 30th June, whether or not they are connected to public drinking water or wastewater services.

1.32 million households have signed up with Irish Water but the utility now estimates that three in ten households nationally could miss out on this €100 Government grant by not registering before Tuesday next.

Head of Communications and Corporate Services with Irish Water, Elizabeth Arnett said, “All households across the country are entitled to the Government €100 Water Conservation Grant – even those who are part of a group water scheme or have a well and a septic tank and are therefore not customers of Irish Water. We are urging all households to register with us so that they will not miss out on this €100 Government grant in September”, Elizabeth Arnett explained.

Paul O’Donoghue, Head of Customer Operations at Irish Water explained that call volumes in the coming week are expected to be high. “Our customer care team of hundreds of trained agents will guide consumers through the registration process to ensure we deliver on our customer commitments. We are encouraging every household that wishes to avail of the Government €100 Water Conservation Grant, but who haven’t yet registered with us to make contact as soon as possible as we expect call volumes to increase as the 30th June deadline approaches” Mr. O’Donoghue said.

Households do not need to do anything further at this stage in relation to the grant once they have registered with Irish Water as the Department of Social Protection has confirmed it will be writing to registered households beginning in late August explaining how to apply for the grant. The grant will be paid by the Department of Social Protection on behalf of the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government to the occupier who registers with Irish Water in respect of a their principal, private residence.
