Irish Water meters feature Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) technology where a transmitter periodically sends your meter reading to a receiver unit in one of our branded, meter reading vehicles. Irish Water will collect these month end records each time a scheduled drive-by reading is carried out, usually every three months. The meter reading is available to view in the My Water online account section and can be useful for monitoring your water usage. However, should you wish to read your water meter, please ensure that it is safe for you to do so or ask a friend or family member to help.

Please read our safety guidelines for more information on safety and security when accessing your water meter.

All domestic Irish Water meters measure the volume of water used in cubic metres. One cubic metre = 1,000 litres.

As illustrated below, the black dials record cubic metres and the red dials record single, tens and hundreds of litres.
