Household charges are suspended

Household charges are suspended

Charges are suspended pending an independent review on a sustainable long-term funding model.

Household Charges Suspension

An independent expert commission has been set up to make recommendations on a sustainable long-term funding model for the delivery of household water and wastewater services by Irish Water. The commission’s recommendations will then be reviewed by an Oireachtas committee before a vote in the Dail takes place.

For full details please see the FAQs below.

The Water Services (Amendment) Bill 2016 provides for the suspension of household water charges, to provide time for an extensive deliberative process to be undertaken on the funding of household water services.

Firstly, the Government will establish an expert commission, which will make recommendations on a sustainable long-term funding model for the delivery of household water and wastewater services by Irish Water.

Secondly, a special Oireachtas committee on the funding of domestic water services will then consider these recommendations and endeavour to make its own recommendations.

Finally, the Oireachtas will consider and vote on these recommendations.
