In September 2016, Irish Water attended the 85th National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore, Europe's largest outdoor exhibition and agricultural trade show.
Our stand showcased the story of water in an engaging and interactive way with a team of experts on hand to answer questions and talk our visitors through the various information points. Thanks to everyone who called in to see us - and to our online visitors, we hope you liked the virtual tour.
2016 proved to be the most successful Ploughing Championships yet, with attendance at a record breaking 283,000 over the three days. The traffic and weather woes, which have plagued previous years, didn’t manifest themselves making for a very enjoyable and worthwhile event.
Highlights from Ploughing 2016
The high visitor numbers gave us a great opportunity to meet with so many members of the public to share with them the sheer size and scale of Ireland's water network, the projects we are undertaking to update and improve it and the part they can play in water conservation and preventing pollution. It was great to see so much engagement and questions from the public around some of our props, with the Think Before You Flush toilet perhaps raising the most eyebrows.
One of the highlights of the three days was welcoming Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Simon Coveney TD, when he stopped by for a tour and to meet some of our team. He got an in depth walkthrough of each of the key themes from our stand and even picked up a 4 minute shower timer.
